Just Die Quietly: Domestic Violence and Women's Vulnerability to HIV in Uganda

Just Die Quietly: Domestic Violence and Women's Vulnerability to HIV in Uganda

This report is about domestic violence and womens vulnerability to HIV in Uganda and is produced by the Womens Rights Division of the organisation Human Rights Watch. The report argues that Ugandan women are becoming infected with HIV because the State is failing to protect them from domestic violence.

Issues discussed in this report include women?s lack of ability to control safe sex, obstructed access to HIV/AIDS information and treatment, HIV status, polygamy, traditional practices and economic dependence. The States response to domestic violence is outlined. Recommendations are made to the Government of Uganda to protect women from violence in the home, prosecute those responsible and create and environment in which women can protect themselves from HIV/AIDS.
